Abstract
This paper investigates the ecological,
economic, and social impacts of traditional and modern fishing practices across
global fisheries. Through a comparative analysis, it identifies the differing
outcomes these methods have on fish population dynamics, environmental
sustainability, and community welfare. The study employs a qualitative review
of existing literature combined with illustrative case studies from various
global regions. The findings suggest that while modern techniques offer high
efficiency and economic growth, they often exacerbate environmental degradation
and social inequity. In contrast, traditional practices, although less
productive, typically support more sustainable ecological and social
frameworks. The paper concludes with recommendations for integrating
sustainable practices into modern fisheries management to protect marine
biodiversity and support the livelihoods of local fishing communities.
