Phytoplankton analysis of Warwand reservoir of Daund tahsil of Maharashtra

Abstract
Phytoplanktons are microscopic, floating and
drifting organisms occurs in various water bodies and have photosynthesis
ability. They are essential part of aquatic food web and also contribute to
carbon cycling. The present work has been conducted on phytoplankton diversity
in Warwand reservoir of Daund Tahsil of Maharashtra. The study has reported a
total of 35 phytoplankton species belonging to 4 major groups namely Cyanophyta,
Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta and Xanthophyta. The highest species count of 16 was
noticed of Chlorophyta followed by Bacillariophyta with 13 species, Cyanophyta
with 5 species and Xanthophyta with a 1 species. Also winter season was
reported to be more favorable for growth and showed highest count as compare to
summer and monsoon.
